***** Please Note: In order to purchase or renew a membership for the 2018 season, all new members/prospective members must watch a 15 minute orientation video and write a short examination on said video.
Additionally, those who do not qualify as local must be sponsored by someone who does qualify in order to purchase a membership. Details can be found in Minutes of the February 11th, 2017 General Meeting on the Documents page. Those who have previously held a membership at the DDSA and can not find a sponsor can email the Executive Team and we will review your membership.
If you would like to add additional family members to your membership, those family members must be present to also watch the video and pass the exam before they can be added to the membership.
This orientation is available at Image Crafter Signs, and memberships can be purchased immediately after completing the orientation. There will be a $5.00 fee per person, per exam to cover the costs of the orientation.
The orientation is a 1 time event; once you have completed the orientation you will not have to take it again.
Finally, please respect that Image Crafter Signs is a local business who are allowing us to conduct membership sales from their premises. Verbal or physical abuse toward their staff will NOT be tolerated. ***********
Located a few kilometers East of Drumheller along Highway 10, the Drumheller and District Shooting Association provides members with an outdoor shooting facility which is open year ’round. Members have access to a rifle range, with a covered bench and target backdrops at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 meters; an outdoor pistol bay; and an archery area. An extended rifle bench, prone area, and extended pistol bays are in the works.
There is a cap of 350 non-local memberships. Non-local is defined as residing more than 70km from the gate of the Range, determined by the shortest distance between the Drumheller and District Shooters Association firing range Access Gate and the individual member’s residence via Provincial primary and secondary highways, maintained country roads, and an individual’s access road into their residence. The image above shows the area that is considered as being local. There is no cap to local memberships.
Members who do not qualify as local must be first sponsored by a local member in good standing with the Association, before they can purchase a membership. The sponsorship comes with the following stipulations:
The SPONSOR understands that by SPONSORING a non-local member (SPONSEE), that in the event that the Sponsee violates any of the Rules and Regulations of the Drumheller and District Shooters Association or as defined by Federal or Provincial or Local laws, then the SPONSOR AND THE SPONSEE can be subject to the same disciplinary action; up to and including loss of membership to the DDSA for life.
The sponsorship equates to a 1 calendar year probationary period, after which the Sponsee does not require sponsorship for subsequent years.
If you wish to sponsor someone, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and membership number, as well as the name of the person you wish to sponsor. We will forward that information to Image Crafters to make sure they have all the necessary information.
Additionally, non-local members (probationary or otherwise), do not have voting privileges at the General Meetings of the Association.
The current membership pricing schedule is as follows:
Membership (Local or non-Local): $180.00 per year.
Senior (65+): $60.00 per year.
Family: $20.00 per additional Family Member added to a regular or senior membership.
As of 2018, we are changing our insurance provider to the CSSA (Canadian Shooting Sports Association). Your 2018 membership will also come with a full CSSA membership. Further information on the CSSA membership can be found here.
All memberships expire on December 31st of the year they were purchased, regardless of when they were purchased during the previous year.

RFID Electronic Gate Lock:
As of January 1st, 2014, members who wish to access the range will need to do so using the new RFID Electronic Gate Lock system. Upon purchase of a 2014+ membership, members will receive an RFID enabled ID card. The RFID membership card is reusable, and can be reactivated with the purchase of the following year’s membership.
Instructions to use the new system to enter or leave the range are as follows:
1. Insert your RFID enabled membership card into the scanning area:
2. Press the button. Card will scan, and a result message will be displayed:
3. If the card was scanned successfully, and the membership is valid, the latch will retract and the gate can be pushed open. The latch will remain open for approx 8 seconds before closing again. To close the gate, simply close it as you would a door. It is not required to scan your membership card again to close the gate.
Note: If the card did not scan correctly, try again. Hold the card still and make sure it is fully inside the scanning area until the scan is complete. If the card does scan correctly but the latch does not open, refer to the LCD display. Your card may be expired, or your membership may have been revoked; the display will tell you which.
Also Note: The gate lock is solar powered. If you arrive at the range and there appears to be no power (display and push button are both unlit), it may be that the batteries have run out of charge. This may especially be the case in the winter, when cold temperatures and limited sunlight are not conducive to solar energy. Please notify the executive and we will remedy the situation ASAP. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.
